Introducing the Career and Mentor Kit (CAMKit) Programs, a unique resource for young women to explore careers. CAMKit Programs are effective and affordable career exploration workshops that are easy to implement. CAMKit's talented, experienced instructors come to our client's location, bringing all workshop supplies. In these custom-designed workshops, we encourage young women to explore a variety of traditional and nontraditional careers, which the client picks from our list of career possibilities. Rather than emphasize one career or another, CAMKit programs engage young women in thought-provoking activities to help them explore careers that they might like to learn more about.

Through innovative and engaging methods and materials, CAMKit teachers encourage young women to discover their skills and interests. Within the context of this supportive team environment, the students gain insight into how to map their skills and values with various careers. Women from diverse ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds serve as mentors.

Fifty-minute workshops on one or two careers are the building blocks of the before- and after-school CAMKit programs. CAMKit offers half-day and full-day vacation and summer camps, career days, and 9th grade career exploratory programs. CAMKit programs can accommodate most schedules. The registration page on the CAMKit website provides additional information for signing up for a program. You may also call (617) 484-6961 for further information.

Mentor Cards
Students read the real-life stories of resilient women successfully working in their chosen fields.

They learn about potential career opportunities by engaging in creative, hands-on activities.

CAMKit WINS Fans

CAMKit Program instructors presented a workshop on the career of environmental planner to the Women in Natural Sciences (WINS) Club at the Blue Hill Observatory Science Center. The young women attend Mrs. Katie Birdwell's eighth grade class at the Galvin Middle School in Canton and other local schools.

CAMKit mentor Mary White, environmental compliance manager for the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority (MWRA), described her work in environmental planning. Then we divided the WINS Club members into teams and assigned them a project. The students spent a rewarding hour on their team projects, which they took home.

WISE Women Pick CAMKIT

At the Women in Science and Engineering (WISE) Conference, half of the middle school students who attended a CAMKit workshop said it was their favorite. The North Shore Educational Collaborative holds this successful event every March at Salem State College. Contact Daryl Mazzaglia (d.mazzaglia@roadrunner.com) for information about the March 17, 2009, conference.

Some students' comments:

"I liked learning about two different careers through the activities. The CAMKit workshop made me think."

"The CAMKit workshop was my favorite. I loved the hands-on activities and being creative."

"I wasn't thinking about a career in science but now I’m considering this field."

"My father is a carpenter, so this workshop was really interesting. I just loved working with my hands."
