Exploring Careers through Mentoring

Did you know that for single working women and their families...

    • The difference between poverty and financial viability for women is often the mother's education and/or training.
    • Women earn on average 77% of what men earn. The financial situation may continue to worsen for families led by single mothers. Thirteen percent of single-parent families live below the poverty limit.

Our high-quality career exploration programs can provide the missing link to lucrative and personally satisfying careers.

    • Many women work in careers not considered “traditional” for women, but that are lucrative and personally satisfying.
    • Young women often need mentoring to explore the full range of career paths.

Introducing the Career and Mentor Kit (CAMKit) Programs, a unique resource for young women to explore careers.

CAMKit Programs are effective and affordable career exploration workshops that are easy to implement. CAMKit's talented, experienced instructors come to our client's location, bringing all workshop supplies. In these custom-designed workshops, we encourage young women to explore a variety of traditional and nontraditional careers, which the client picks from our list of career possibilities. Rather than emphasize one career or another, CAMKit programs engage young women in thought-provoking activities to help them explore careers that they might like to learn more about.

Through innovative and engaging methods and materials, CAMKit teachers encourage young women to discover their skills and interests. Within the context of this supportive team environment, the students gain insight into how to map their skills and values with various careers. Women from diverse ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds serve as mentors.

Career and Mentor Kit Programs are available in several formats and combinations of formats.

50-minute workshops on one or two careers are the building blocks of the before- and after-school CAMKit programs. CAMKit offers half-day and full-day vacation and summer camps, career days, and 9th grade nontraditionl career exploratory programs. CAMKit programs can accommodate most schedules.

We customize our programs to suit our clients, who can combine workshops, camps, and career days over a few weeks, a semester, or an entire year. We meet your scheduling requirements, if at all possible. For example, we can plan workshops for multiple days of the same week or for consecutive weeks.

Students love our summer camps where they "try on" a variety of careers while working on individual and team projects.

Our full-day, two-week summer camp is an exceptional career exploration model. In a career and technical high school's shops, students rising 7th and 8th grades "try on" three careers during carefully monitored activities. Parents and friends celebrate the students' achievements at end-of-camp festivities. This program may serve as a pipeline of female students for the career-tech school.

The registration page on the CAMKit website provides additional information for signing up for a program. You may also call (617) 484-6961 for further information.
