Meet Our Exceptional CAMKit Staff

Barbara Passero, Project Leader

Barbara Passero is the founder and Project Leader for the Career and Mentor Kit Program. She coordinates project consultants and activities, researches information, interviews mentors, edits interviews, organizes and publicizes events, markets the CAMKit Programs to schools and other organizations, and works with the webmaster to develop the website.

Barbara earned a B.A. in English from Hiram College and an M.L.S. in Library and Information Science from Simmons College. She has worked in information outreach for 30 years. For over 20 years, she served as publications officer for Massachusetts Marine Educators Inc. (MME), an organization of ocean science teachers. Ms. Passero edited the organization's newsletter Flotsam and Jetsam. This newsletter provides information about events, teaching resources, and curriculum materials.

Barbara organized and coordinated educational and communications programs, activities, and projects for MME and for MIT Sea Grant Program and the Biology Department of Suffolk University. She served as Communications Officer for the MIT Research Laboratory of Electronics (RLE), one of MIT's oldest and largest interdisciplinary research laboratories. At RLE, she edited and formatted the annual RLE Progress Report, RLE undercurrents, and various technical reports and coordinated production of RLE currents.

Sandpiper Creative, the parent company for the CAMKit Program, organizes and coordinates educational and environmental programs and offers copy editing and proofreading services.

Barbara is a town meeting member in Belmont, MA, and is active in the town, particularly in educational and land use planning matters. She is a Life Member of Massachusetts Marine Educators; Member: the MetroNorth Regional Employment Board (REB) Youth Commission, Coalition for Science After-School, Waltham Weston Chamber of Commerce, and other organizations. She writes poetry and children's stories.


Karen K. Futal, Educator

Karen K. Futral leads CAMKit workshops and other programs. She has worked with children and adolescents as both an educator and a therapist and has led groups in classrooms, art studios, and hospitals. She has a Masters degree in Expressive Therapies from Lesley University and currently works as a teacher and therapist in the Boston area.

Ms. Futral's educational training includes course work in vocational development and career counseling, and she has conducted research in occupational stereotypes. She has worked in both public and private schools, and with diverse cultural groups, including children and teenagers in South Africa.


Lyn Koslo, Curriculum Developer

Lyn Koslo develops curriculum for CAMKit programs. Ms. Koslo retired after 35 years with the North Ridgeville (Ohio) Public Schools. She taught various elementary grades during her career, but taught fifth grade for her last five years at North Ridgeville.

Ms. Koslo earned the BS degree in elementary education from Bowling Green State University.

Ms. Koslo is active in education department in her church and as a tutor in the Cleveland Public Schools.
